Supplies Needed:
  • Well-ventilated area. Your project may take several days depending on the size of the piece of furniture, so plan ahead.
  • Stain or paint
  • Brushes
  • Paper Towels or Rags
  • Drop Cloth
  • Rubber Gloves
  • #220 & #320 Grit Sandpaper
  • Top Coat
Preparing the Wood:
  1. Read all instructions for stains and finishes.
  2. Even though the furniture is sanded at the factory, you will need to do some additional sanding with #220 sandpaper to be sure the surface is properly prepared to absorb the stain. Fill any nail holes with a wood putty at this time as well.
  3. Remove the dust with a clean cloth or vacuum.
Staining:
  1. Stir stain well before using.
  2. Test the color in a hidden area, then wipe off the excess to be sure you are happy with your choice.
  3. Stain your piece, working in manageable sections.
  4. Allow to dry completely.
  5. Apply top coat, sand lightly then apply a second layer. Let Dry.
